Along with the fish there is plenty of bird and wild life in the area including woodpeckers (Common spotted, lesser spotted and Green) Kingfishers, Dippers, Wood cock, Herons and Egret can be seen near the river. Buzzards, Red Kites, Barn Owls and little Owls can be seen cruising the fields.
One of the favourite inhabitants of the river is the Otter (Lutra lutra) which will very occasionally pop their head up out of the water at dusk or be caught bobbing across the river bank. They are extremely shy and elusive creatures but if you are quiet for long enough along the riverbank you may be lucky enough to see them.

The Fishing at Le-Gro Barns is perfect for beginner and the experience angler. The rivers are ideal for coarse and fly fishing. There is approximately 1 mile of fishing which includes the River Tanat and the confluence with the River Vyrnwy. There is a variety of species of game fish found in the rivers including Wild Brown Trout, Grayling, for coarse fishermen Barbel, Tench, Chubb are present in the slower deeper water. The annual salmon run is an amazing sight and can be witnessed at the local weir where they can be seen making their way upstream to spawn. This can be easily accessed from the barns on foot.
All anglers must have the appropriate licence.
We are very fortunate to have an excellent golf course in the next village of Llanymynech. It is an 18 hole, 6968 yard par 71 course. You are able to play a round of golf with spectacular scenery in two different countries!

There are two bike parks within easy driving distance. One is for all abilities and families with bikes that can be hired for a fee. The other park in Llangynog is for the advanced rider with their own bike.
Coed Llandegla mountain bike trials are for beginner and families with other trails for the more experience. You are able to cycle through the forest in the beautiful Denbighshire countryside. Bikes are able to be hired from this park.
There are also some fabulous walks that have different routes to suite all abilities and fitness levels. On one of the routes the famous Black Grouse can be seen at certain times of the year and has views towards the Esclusham Mountains.
Enjoy a wonderful day out exploring the tracks and bridle paths on the Shropshire/Welsh borders. Penycoed Stables are situated outside the village of Pant approximately 4-5 miles from Le-Gro Barns set in woodlands with fabulous view over the Plaines. There are horses and ponies to suit all ages and abilities.

If you fancy something different and adventurous why not try commando paint ball and border quad trekking. This family run outdoor pursuit centre based at Bulthy Hill Farm. There is also archery, laser sports and a climbing tower to conquer. They have also recently started to offer a comprehensive package that includes helicopter flights. White water rafting & water activities
Wales has many beautiful rivers and lakes so it is great that people are able to make the most of them in some of the outdoor pursuits on offer. There is something for all levels of adventure.
Those brave enough and seeking the thrill factor there is the zip wire in north Wales to try out. There are different types of zip wires activities for speed etc. and caverns to explore. They even have a trampoline in the caves called “Bounce Below”
